Joe Rogan is a comedian, mixed martial arts color commentator, business man, and host of one of the most popular podcasts of all time – The Joe Rogan Experience. At fifty years old, Joe is in better shape than most 25 year olds due to his diet, workout regime, and supplement routine.
An experimenter of epic proportions, Joe will try anything in the name of peak performance. From eating wild game daily (check out his Instagram), to drinking kale shakes and injecting himself with testosterone, the guy is a complete beast.
Joe’s podcast has allowed him to interview dozens, if not hundreds, of nutritional and health experts on his podcast over the years including Ph. D’s, medical doctors, and many others who are at the top of their field. Immersing himself in this expertise has allowed Joe to build a legendary supplement stack. This covers the many (and we mean MANY) supplements that Joe Rogan takes on a regular basis, while citing sources form his social media pages, podcasts, and interviews.
Joe Rogan’s Complete Supplement List

In a recent podcast episode with the “Mushroom Guy” Paul Stamets, Joe’s mind is blown by the crazy benefits of Lion’s Mane Mushroom.
The mushroom guy described Lion’s Mane as a safe and legal mushroom that leads to neurogenesis, which is a process that produces new neurons in the brain.
Some of the benefits of Lion’s mane are:
- Improve cognitive performance
- Improve focus, memory, and recall
- Stimulate nerve growth and regeneration
- Improve immune health
During a podcast episode with TJ Dillashaw, Joe said that when he is feeling stressed out and needs to relax, he’ll take four capsules of Onnit New Mood. New Mood combines the two building blocks of serotonin, L-tryptophan and 5-HTP, with a converting catalyst, Vitamin B6. This combination allows the body to optimize serotonin – also known as the “happy” chemical – in the body.
In addition to L-tryptophan and 5-HTP, New Mood comes loaded with relaxing herbs such as valerian root extract, chamomile flower extract, lemon balm leaf abstract, and jujube seed extract. Even though this is another Onnit product Rogan is slinging, it is one of the best products on the market. Like Alpha Brain, the ingredients are backed by scientific studies. One academic study said the main ingredient, 5-HTP “easily crosses the blood-brain barrier and effectively increases central nervous system (CNS) synthesis of serotonin.”
If you’re already a pretty relaxed person and don’t have trouble chilling out or sleeping well, you could probably pass on this supplement. But, if you’re like most people, if you want to sleep like a baby and reduce your stress levels, you might want to give New Mood a try.
If you know anything about the ketogenic diet that Rogan promotes, you are likely familiar with ketones. Ketones are produced when the body burns fat for fuel as opposed to using carbs – which is the goal of the ketogenic diet. In scientific studies, ketones have been shown to enhance brain function, improve sleep, and increase energy.
Responding to a question about what ketogenic supplement Rogan takes, he replied in an Instagram post saying, “This isn’t in any way shape or form a paid ad, I just enjoy this stuff and I want to promote a company that makes an excellent product. It’s called kegenix….I like to mix it up with some instant alpha brain from @onnit. Makes for a delicious drink and gives me a ton of energy. I’ve tried a couple of their flavors but I really prefer wild berry.”
Since this post, this supplement has been rebranded as Kegenix Prime, and is one of the most powerful ketone supplements on the market. Unlike many other ketone supplements, it contains both exogenous ketone salts (beta-hydroxybutyrate) and medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). Kegenix Prime allows you to quickly enter ketosis by providing this powerful dose of ketones, while helping your body to jump-start it’s own ketone production.
I first heard Joe mention Caveman Nitro when he was a guest on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast. Joe used to be a Bulletproof Coffee guy, but according to multiple podcast and social media mentions, he seems to be more of a fan of Caveman Coffee now. Along with Joe Rogan, Chris Pratt has also endorsed this stuff, so you know it’s going to be pretty good.
Caveman Coffee was co-founded by his friend Tait Fletcher. The single origin beans used in this concoction are hand-picked Colombian and Brazilian beans that are wet processed and then small batch roasted by a mystical coffee master.
You’ve probably seen Joe and his guest popping cans of Caveman Coffee’s NITRO Cold Brew. In his own words, this is Rogan’s favorite way to catch a buzz in the morning. And according to the tweet below, he mixes Onnit Emulsified MCT Oil with Caveman Nitro and refers to it as “rocket fuel”.

Athletic & Dietary Supplements
Rogan used to rave all the time about taking hemp protein, but the Onnit product he took has been discontinued and he never mentions it anymore. When speaking of protein, Rogan is pretty serious about getting it from wild game. You can see his Instagram is filled with all of the elk he eats. When it comes to a protein supplement, Rogan has recently said on Instagram that he takes Onnit’s Protein Bites. You can get a huge box of them from Onnit, and each “bite” contains 7 grams of protein.
Joe has mentioned on his podcast and the Instagram post below that he takes Alpha Brain and Shroom Tech Sport before he works out. More specifically, he takes four pills of each. Shroom Tech Sport is actually pretty legit – it’s a combination of cordyceps sinensis mushroom, adaptogens, antioxidants, and methyl B-12. This allows for a cleaner energy instead of a purely stimulant-based pre-workout. The ingredients in Shroom Tech Sport allow for the production of ATP, which provide energy on a cellular level while improving oxygen utilization.
Like Alpha Brain this product is by Onnit – but as with Alpha Brain, they put in the work to do some actual clinical studies instead of just promoting some snake-oil product that doesn’t work. In a 12-week clinical trial using college-aged men at Florida State University, Shroom Tech Sport was shown to increase bench press reps by 12% and cardio performance by 8.8% versus a placebo.
We recommend going with the 84-count, as the smaller bottle will literally last you about 10 days. This a great pre-workout that will really put you in a good mood and have a positive effect on your mind as opposed to having the jitters from a pre-workout stuffed with stimulants.
Earth Grown Nutrients by Onnit is an organic micro-nutrient supplement that is jam-packed with super foods and nutrients you wouldn’t easily be able to gain from foods. With Earth Grown Nutrients, you will not be missing a beat when it comes to getting in your daily greens. Completely organic, some of the greens you’ll find in this combo are kale, wheat grass, barley grass, oat grass, moringa, kelp, and alfalfa extract.
In addition to providing your daily greens, this product also has probiotics and digestive enzymes to improve your gut health. Improving your gut health will help you to better absorb and digest all the nutrients you are putting in your body. And with additional ingredients such as dandelion, schizandra, milk thistle, and nettle – Earth Grown Nutrients also works as a detox supplement. It also tastes awesome and is available in Black Cherry and Lemon Mint. Check out the ingredients below.
Daily Vitamins & Minerals
Omega-3 Fish Oil
If you’ve listened to any podcast where Joe talks about nutrition, you know he is an avid fan of omega-3 fish oils. In the same podcast with Tom Papa above, Joe dives into how much he values omega fish oils, and how they are “super, super important for brain function”. He specifically supplements with Carlson’s Super Omega-3 fish oil according to a Youtube video below where he gives a tour of his supplement cabinet, along with the same Instagram post from 2013.
Lately, Joe has been all about krill oil due to it’s bioavailability as a source of DHA. In a podcast Joe did with Dr. Rhonda Patrick, she mentions the importance of taking both Krill Oil and Fish Oil to get the unique benefits of each – which are both crucial for brain function. Joe hasn’t mentioned what krill oil he takes, but we’re going to go out on a limb here and guess it’s the new Onnit Krill Oil product that just recently dropped.
70% of the population is Vitamin D deficient. In another podcast with Dr. Rhonda Patrick, she suggests that the normal person needs at least 4,000iu of Vitamin D3 per day. You can only get D3 from sunlight, or a few certain foods.
Many scientists have suggested that Vitamin D3 acts more like a hormone than a vitamin. A recent study done in 2010 concluded that: “Compared to baseline values, a significant increase in total testosterone levels, bioactive testosterone, and free testosterone levels were observed in the vitamin D supplemented group. Our results suggest that vitamin D supplementation might increase testosterone levels.”
So if you are feeling symptoms of low testosterone, it could be due to a Vitamin D deficiency. According to the Youtube video mentioned above, he specifically takes Solgar’s D3 5,000iu.
Bone & Joint Support
Growing up training as a fighter, Joe endured lots of wear on his joints. For this reason, he supplements with glucosamine and chondroitin. Chondroitin and glucosamine is a combination product that helps the body maintain flexibility and fluid in the joints, while helping to build cartilage. According to post on MMA Underground, he notices a big difference when he does not take them.
In his supplement cupboard video, he shows he’s taking 365 Glucosamine Chondroitin & MSM, but in a more recent Instagram post shown below we can see he has switched over to an Onnit Glucosamine & Chondoition product, which has since been rebranded to Onnit Strong Bone & Joint.
As you can see, Joe Rogan takes a ton of supplements. The goal of this post was to give you a glimpse of every single supplement he takes, citing sources. Joe goes above and beyond with this stack, with the goal of being as healthy as humanly possible. Whether your goal is total human optimization, to live to be 100 years old, or simply just get in better shape – there is something on this list that will help you reach your goals. Joe is always trying new supplements, so I will be updating this post with any of the crazy stuff he tries next.
