In The 4-Hour Body, Tim Ferriss introduced the now famous Slow-Carb Diet. The diet allows you to eat only lean meats, beans and veggies—while avoiding foods such as bread, potatoes, and pasta. By avoiding foods that promote fat storage, the Slow-Carb Diet helps your body burn off fat as fuel. If done right, this diet can lead to incredible body transformation and weight-loss.
Tim also recommends eating the same meals over and over while on the Slow-Carb Diet, especially for breakfast. While on the diet, Ferriss eats the same breakfast every day, and it only takes him three minutes to make. This breakfast contains around 200-300 calories, as Tim is a huge proponent of either fasting or eating a small breakfast. Now, let’s take a look at Tim’s breakfast.
Tim Ferriss’s 3-Minute “Slow-Carb” Breakfast
What You’ll Need:
- Egg Whites (Tim uses Eggology which you can pick up on Amazon)
- 1 tablespoon of Organic Flax Seed Oil
- Southwest Salsa (Make sure to use a brand low in sugar and carbs. I’m a big fan of the Dennis’ Gourmet brand)
- Lemon Juice
- Chopped Spinach
- Optional: Side of beans
Next, place a handful of chopped spinach and 2-3 eggs worth of egg whites into separate containers and microwave them until cooked. Tim microwaves them because of the quickness and simplicity, but you can definitely cook them in a skillet if you prefer to get your chef on.
Once everything is cooked, put about 2-3 tablespoons of southwest salsa on the egg whites, as egg whites are extremely bland on their own. Bring the spinach to life by adding a small dash of the flax seed oil and a few squirts of lemon juice. The flax seed oil adds a nice dose of healthy omega-3 fatty acids to really fill out the macro-nutrient profile of the breakfast. If this still leaves you hungry, you can add a side portion of beans.
The only thing left now is to enjoy! I included the video below of Tim actually making the breakfast. If you enjoyed Tim’s 3-minute breakfast, be sure to check out his supplement stack.
